Okanagan hockey players win national bronze

Team B.C. are hockey bronze medalists at the 2023 national women91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s under-18 championships.

The team defeated Alberta, 3-1 in the bronze medal match on Saturday, Nov. 11 in Dawson Creek.

Six Okanagan athletes featured on the team: Holly Magnus (Vernon), Scarlett Jones (Coldstream), Kennedy Sisson (Lake Country), Kaitlyn Mallette (Kel0wna), Brielle Kelly-Paquet (Kelowna) and Gracie Graham (Kelowna).

B.C. defeated Saskatchewan in the quarterfinal, 5-3, before losing to Quebec 7-3 in the semis.

In the bronze medal game, B.C. got goals from Chloe Primerano (Vancouver), Hannah Dods (Chilliwack) and Danica Maynard (Osoyoos), while goaltender Clara Juca stopped 19 of 20 shots faced.

The leading point getter on B.C. was Kelowna91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s Graham, with two goals and seven assists in five games played.

Morgan Jackson (Courtenay) was named the top forward of the tournament, with her four goals and four assists.

Ontario Red defeated Quebec 3-2 in the gold medal match.
