The Kelowna Rockets fell just short on Friday night, losing 3-2 to the Prince George Cougars to suffer their ninth consecutive loss.
Levi Benson opened the scoring 5:04 into the game making it 1-0 for Kelowna. Defenceman Nate Corbet assisted on the goal.
Later in the period the Cougars would tie it when Borya Valis scored his 26th goal of the year.
Prince George took their first lead of the game in the second frame when Terik Parascak found the back of the net for the 22nd time this season. The powerplay goal came at the 6:17 mark.
Five minutes later, Cougars captain Riley Heidt put home his 24th of the campaign, which ended up being the eventual game-winning goal.
In the third period, the Rockets got a powerplay goal of their own when Dawson Gerwing scored his 11th goal of the year, assisted by Will Sharpe and Jakub Stancl. But that goal was as close as Kelowna would get.
Goaltender Jake Pilon made 26 saves in the loss for the Rockets.
With the current losing streak, the Rockets are now 16-28-4-1 on the season, last in the WHL's Western Conference.
On Saturday night, they'll look to end their losing streak on home ice, while wearing some specialty jerseys. As they welcome the Tri-City Americans to Prospera Place, it's the annual Nickelodeon Night for Children91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s Miracle Network, in which the Rockets will be wearing specialty Paw Patrol jerseys, which will be auctioned off online with all proceeds going towards BC Children91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s Hospital. Puck drop is at 6:05 p.m.
