The Coldest Night of the Year annual fundraiser to help those experiencing homelessness is taking place in downtown Kelowna on Saturday, Feb. 22.

An annual fundraising event is set to help warm people in need during the winter months.

On Saturday, Feb. 22, Metro Community is hosting the annual Coldest Night of the Year walk to raise money and help those experiencing homelessness.

"Kelowna is the fastest growing location that has grown from 200 walkers to nearly 1,000 in just three years!," stated a Metro Community press release. "This grassroots groundswell of support is very unique to our city where people are trying to make a real difference."

On the day of the event, opening remarks will take place at 4:45 p.m. with the walk starting at 5 p.m. at Metro Community, which is located at 1262 St. Paul Street. There are options to walk either two or five kilometres.

This year, the organization has a goal to raise $150,000, which will fully go towards helping the unhoused that use its facilities. Per day, Metro welcomes more than 150 people for shelter, meals, showers, laundry, wound care, casework, and more.

As of Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 11 a.m., Metro has reached 41 per cent of its goal with 51 teams totalling 209 walkers have registered. Anyone interested in partaking or for more information, visit the Coldest Night of the Year .
