Some volunteer hands are needed to harvest plans for community agriculture.

The BX Swan Lake Community Association is forming a Friends of sncÉ™cmaÅ‚qtn Agricultural Park committee for the East Vernon Road property.

The park's name, sncÉ™cmaÅ‚qtn, translates to 'place of small crops or garden.' 

Now Friends of the Park are needed to help steer its future.

"We are looking for people that have one or more of the following:" said association president Jeffry Williamson.

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ practical hands-on experience related to farming and farm infrastructure

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ farm management experience

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ an education background

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ experience in plant and invasive weed identification

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ experience in ecological land stewardship

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ a reasonable level of fitness and mobility

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ capable of working with farm/garden hand tools

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ a strong community spirit

The committee will provide day to day support to the park on-site coordinator, support other community groups and tenants of the park, engage in on site projects, maintenance and supervision, and organize and participate in onsite community events. 

It will also advise the sncÉ™cmaÅ‚qtn (BXR) project working group of the Regional District of North Okanagan on longer term actions, budget priorities and day to day operations.
