A celebration of diversity in Vernon will be taking place early this year. 

The Vernon Pride Society has announced that Vernon Pride Week will be held this coming June. The move aligns Vernon's pride celebration with Pride Month, which is recognized internationally each June. 

"You've been asking for it and we've delivered. In celebration of Pride Month, Vernon Pride Week will now be June 2-8," Vernon Pride said in a statement. 

Vernon Pride Week will now annually take place in June. It was celebrated in August in previous years.

"Along with this big change we have loads of new events planned (for) Pride Week 2025! Our board is working hard to create a fun-filled and educational week for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and allies to enjoy together this June in Vernon!"

Vernon Pride describes itself as "a celebration of queer and trans joy and community." It held the city's first Pride Week in 2022, and hundreds of people have attended its events since. 

Vernon Pride's colourful presence will be seen well before June's Pride Week, as the society is taking part in the Vernon Winter Carnival Parade on Saturday, Feb. 8.
