Slackwater Brewing's taproom in downtown Penticton is permanently closing.

Citing financial and operational challenges, the brewery on Tuesday said Oct. 26 will be its final day.

"After much consideration, we've made the difficult decision to permanently close our taproom in downtown Penticton," the business said in a social media post. "The financial and operational challenges we've faced in recent years have made this choice necessary for the sustainability of our business."

The site of the former Mule Nightclub, Slackwater Brewing opened at 218 Martin St. in June 2019.

Currently, it is one of eight breweries in Penticton.

"We want to assure our loyal customers that our production and distribution will continue unaffected," Slackwater added. "We're proud to serve our award-winning craft beer across four provinces and remain committed to delivering the quality you know and love."

In its post, the business also thanked the community for its support over the last five years.

"Our final day of service will be Saturday, Oct. 26," it reads. "And we hope you'll enjoy many times before then and help us blow the roof off on the final night!

"Thank you for your support throughout this journey. We look forward to sharing our brews with you in new ways."

The announcement comes just days before the start of Penticton Beer Week, which celebrates the city's craft beer scene every in October.

This year's edition, the sixth, runs from Oct. 4 to 14.
