Okanagan gymnasts rack up medals in Kamloops

OGC athletes compete in women's artistic gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling

Okanagan Gymnastics Centre athletes are coming off a busy and productive weekend of competition, bringing home plenty of medals from two events in Kamloops.

Seven Level 5 & 6 athletes from Okanagan Gymnastics Centre qualified for provincials and are now headed to the BC championships next month in Langley with 20 other athletes, Level 7 and higher.

Natalia Simeunovic, Thea Elma, Miah Denis and Sydney Ortynski all qualified in Level , where six athletes will represent zone 2.  These four young ladies also won the Level 5 team award.

Hailey Pritchard, Naomi Schraeder and Alayna Butler earned a spot on the Level 6 team.

In Level 3 2007-2008 category, Olive Fenske dominated the competition once again, this time winning five gold medals. Fenske91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s highest score was a 9.75 on the uneven bars.

Haylee Van Steinburg won the vault and took silver on the floor exercise, while  Junelle Sabang earned bronze on the vault in the same category.

In Level 3 2006-2007 category, Summer Houston won gold on vault while Alexandra Kennedy won silver on the vault.

In Level 4, 2006-2007, Piper Campo won gold on the vault and a silver medal on the floor exercise.  Jaelyn Spavor earned a silver on the balance beam and Taylor Morrison finished in third on the beam.

In Level 4, 2005-2006 category, Kate Levinsen was second overall after finishing second on the floor exercise and tying for first on the beam with her teammate Teagan with a score of 9.475.

Natalia Simeunovic dominated Level 5 competition with five gold medals for her strong and consistent performance.

Thea Elma finished second overall after silver medals on the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise, while Miah Denis took a bronze medal on the balance beam.

In the largest category of the competition, Naomi Schraeder finished in second on the vault and floor exercise in the Level 6 category.

In the Level 7, 2003-2004, Kenedi Woodcox won the overall gold medal while Kayleigh Nicolson won the silver medal overall.

Woodcox won the uneven bars and floor exercise and finished third on the balance beam. Nicolson won the vault and the balance beam and finished in third place on the uneven bars.

Emily Mackay won the Level 7, 2002-2000 category with gold medals for her amazing vault and floor routine where she earned a 9.625 and a 9.7 respectively.  She also earned silver medals on the uneven bars and balance beam. Mackenzie Carroll finished third overall in the same category where she finished first on the balance beam and second on the vault and floor.

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ Trampoline Gymnastics91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ”Canada Cup and trials

Coaches Jamie Gardner and Rachel Stone were busy with 27 Okanagan Gymnastics Centre athletes competing throughout the three-day weekend.

The top finisher in Canada Cup competition was Jordan Yendley who was first in Level 5 Synchronized trampoline event with her partner Emily Welsh. Yendley also earned a silver medal on trampoline in the Level 6 Under 17 category and she also earned a bronze medal for her performance on the double mini trampoline.

In the Kamloops Invitational, Madi Eagle brought home three gold medals for her efforts in the Level 4 Under 15 trampoline, Level 3 Under 13 double mini and Level 1 13+ tumbling events.

Jaylin Otteson won two bronze medals for Level 4 Under 15 double mini trampoline and the Level 2 Under 13 tumbling event.

Isabel Gremmen earned a silver in the Level 4 Under 15 trampoline.

Taya Lawless finished with the silver medal in the Level 3 15+ double mini.

Paige Paynter earned a silver medal in the Level 5 15+ trampoline.

Kelly Dolgopol finished with two bronze in the Level 4 16+ trampoline and Level 2 14+ tumbling.

Vanna Harris won three medals, earning gold in the Level 2 14+ tumbling, silver in Level 3 Under 14 double mini and bronze in the Level 4 Under 15 trampoline.

Janiah Harris finished first in Level 3 Under 14 double mini and won a silver medal in Level 2 14+ tumbling.

Carter Calvert won gold in the Level 4 Under 15 trampoline and a bronze medal in Level 4 Under 15 double mini, while Travis Towers finished with a gold in Level 4 Under 15 double mini trampoline.

Max Vandenburg earned a gold medal in Level 3 Under 14, while Taylor Pillinger won gold on Level 3 Under 14 trampoline and a bronze on double mini trampoline.

Brett Judson won bronze in Level 4 trampoline, while Sheyanna Lawrence won silver in Level 2 14+ trampoline.

Matthias Bishop took second in Level 1 Under 13 double mini trampoline.

Isabelle Glen earned a silver medal in Level 3 Under 14 trampoline.

Jonothan Welsh won two bronze medals in the level 3 Under 13 trampoline and Level 1 13+ double mini.

Sydney Taylor won a bronze in the Level 1 13+ trampoline, while Ella Law finished with 1st place in Level 1 13+ double mini trampoline.
