A Kelowna high school basketball player is drawing eyes on a national scale.
Mavleen Chahal, a 12th-grade guard for the Kelowna Secondary School Owls, has been named to the girls watchlist for the 2025 All Canadian Games.
Chahal is one of 97 athletes from across the country who has been selected to the watchlist. She has led the Owls to the top spot in the Okanagan AAAA standings and looks poised for another provincial tournament selection.
Athletes in their fourth or fifth year of high school, born in 2006 or 2007 and born in Canada or hold a Canadian passport are eligible for potential selection to the Canadian Games team.
The watchlist consists of all players selected to the ballot by the girls selection committee, a group of 24 coaches/directors/scouts and other stakeholders of Canadian basketball programs across the country.
Three rounds of voting will narrow the watchlist down to the Top 24 All Canadian selections before a televised game between teams of 12 will take place from April 3-5 at the All Canadian Fieldhouse in Orangeville, Ont.
The All Canadian Games are an NBA-sanctioned event and will be broadcast live on TSN.
Past girls alumni of the team include number six overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft Aaliyah Edwards and the eighth overall pick in the 2023 WNBA draft, Laeticia Amihere.
