Canada91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s official Olympic talent search, the RBC Training Ground, is bringing scouts to the Okanagan.
Representatives from 15 summer and winter Olympic sports will be at the RBC Training Ground Event at Kelowna's University of B.C. Okanagan campus gymnasium on Sunday, Feb. 16, to identify talented athletes.
The talent identification and athlete funding program is designed to find athletes aged 14 to 25 with Olympic potential and provide them with the resources they need to represent Canada on the world stage.
The program uses a series of speed, strength, endurance and power tests to identify athletes who would be well suited to an Olympic sport like skeleton, rowing, cycling, bobsleigh and rugby.
Former soccer player Kelsey Mitchell's cycling potential was discovered at an RBC Training Ground event in 2017. Her talent was fostered by RBC and Cycling Canada and within four years, Mitchell earned how to ride in a velodrome and became a world record holder and an Olympic champion.
Since its inception in 2016, Training Ground has identified and fostered the development of 21 athletes who have since competed at the Olympic Games. Twelve of the 21 athletes who were identified by RBC Training Ground have brought home medals.
