The host Okanagan College Coyotes were just one out away from celebrating their first ever Canadian College Baseball Conference championship.

Then the Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs broke their hearts.

The defending-champion Dawgs rallied from behind with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ”both with two outs91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ”to edge the Coyotes 5-4 on Sunday afternoon in the CCBC final at Elks Stadium.

Trailing 4-3 in the ninth, the Dawgs scored runs on successive singles by Cory Scammell and Matt Malec to claim the Lethbridge-based program's sixth straight conference title.

A pair of RBIs by Liam Wyatt helped OC build a 4-2 lead through five innings, but the Dawgs fought back with one in the sixth and two more in the decisive ninth.

The Dawgs finished the weekend unbeaten at 6-0, while the Coyotes went 3-3 overall in the five-team season-ending tournament.

Geoff White's club defeated the Calgary Dinos 14-9 in Sunday morning's semifinal to advance to the championship.

The Coyotes, who finished second during the regular season with a 14-14 record, will host the CCBC championship again in May 2017.

Coyotes outfielder Davis Todosichuk was named to the conference's first all-star team, which was announced during the championship.

OC infielders Liam Wyatt and Eric Junnola, outfielder Aaron Barret, designated hitter Logan Wedgewood and pitcher Cole Parussini were named to the second team.
