March 23, 1928 - August 26, 2021
Philippa passed away after a brief period of failing health. She was lovingly supported at this time by her family.
Born in Ottawa she grew up on a peach farm in Grimsby Ontario. She told many stories of her life with father Victor, mother Katherine, and brother Bob Thompson. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, McGill university 1951, attended Katherine Gibbs finishing school in Boston, and after a European student tour married her first husband Gordon Hood, and moved west to Trail and Rossland BC.
Her life was full of family, wonderful friends, and outdoor adventures. She enjoyed camping, skiing, golf, sang light opera, sewed clothes, knitted many a sweater and afghan, grew gardens, canned and baked, and was a master of excellent jam.
A lifelong book lover, she became a librarian at age 50 (via correspondence course), landed her first paying job at 52, and joined her last book club 40 years later.
Travel was a passion all of her life and she had many stories and pictures of her trips. Living two years in Kochi (Cochin) India and later homes in Richmond, Kelowna, West Vancouver, and finally Comox BC.
In 1990 she married her second husband, a longtime family friend, Ted Fletcher and together they toured the world from Inuvik to Syria.
Philippa was predeceased by husband Ted and her brother Bob. She is survived by her kids, Greg (Robin), Deb (Peter), and Leslie (Mark); and grandkids, Erin, Andrew, Kate, and Will. She adored summers at Christina Lake with Ted and various configurations of Hood and Fletcher clans. She enjoyed warm, close ties with Ted's children and grandchildren.
We are grateful for the compassionate care of Drs. Dan Wainberg and Carolyne Montgomery, and the North Island Hospital Comox Valley nurses and staff.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
