Splatsin training, Vernon cultural educators enhance emergency safety

$40K for Vernon, Splatsin training modules and workshops implemented which integrate cultural practices into emergency preparedness

New funding will help ensure local emergency management practices are inclusive and respectful of Indigenous people and communities, according to Vernon-Lumby MLA Harwinder Sandhu.

The City of Vernon is receiving $40,000 in funding for cultural safety educators.

Other projects include implementing Splatsin91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s training modules and workshops that integrate cultural practices into emergency preparedness, and establishing culturally appropriate protocols for emergency response and recovery, enhancing community resilience.

The provincial government is providing approximately $1 million for 20 projects around B.C. Projects include staff and volunteer training, and building and strengthening relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
