The Trans Mountain pipeline expansion remains stuck in gridlock following a Sunday morning meeting between Premier John Horgan, Premier Rachel Notley and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The meeting between the three leaders was a last ditch effort to talk things out before Trudeau takes off for an international trip Sunday night.

According to B.C.91Ƶs premier, it didn91Ƶt produce any results.

91ƵWe continue to disagree on the question of moving diluted bitumen from Alberta to the Port of Vancouver,91Ƶ Horgan said following the meeting.

91ƵWe remain committed to ensuring we91Ƶre protecting our jurisdiction in this regard.91Ƶ

Kinder Morgan91Ƶs Trans Mountain expansion project would twin an existing oil pipeline that extends from central Alberta to the west coast.

The move has been the subject of a heated trade battle between B.C. and Alberta since January and has seen at Kinder Morgan work sites in Burnaby.

on the project last Sunday, saying that it couldn91Ƶt justify the cost of continuing construction as B.C.91Ƶs government fought the pipeline in court. The company said it would make a final decision on the pipeline by May 31.

The deadline may be too short for the court system. Currently, B.C. and the City of Burnaby on whether it will consider a lower court decision that denied Burnaby leave to appeal a ruling by the National Energy Board.

Horgan said that the court challenge was the logical way to deal with jurisdictional conflicts and said that B.C. will 91Ƶabide91Ƶ by the court91Ƶs decision

In a separate case, the province still needs to submit a reference question to the courts about whether it has the jurisdiction to limit the transport of bitumen through B.C.

Jurisdiction has been a heated sticking point between B.C. and Ottawa, with Horgan turning to Quebec91Ƶs premier on the importance of asserting provincial jurisdiction.

At a press conference following the meeting, Notley said that the 91Ƶconstitutional crisis91Ƶ B.C. is creating costs nearly $40 million a day.

She confirmed Alberta91Ƶs interest in financially backing the Trans Mountain expansion, even going so far as buying out the $7.4 billion project.

Notley called B.C.91Ƶs actions a 91Ƶconsidered attempt to create uncertainty91Ƶ and said Alberta won91Ƶt engage in 91Ƶesoteric debates91Ƶ meant to 91Ƶto harass a project to death.91Ƶ

Horgan said that the 91Ƶfederal government laid out their plans91Ƶ in regards to moving the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion forward but deferred any questions on those plans to federal officials.

91Ƶ[Trudeau] said the federal government will moving with legislative and financial measures in the days ahead,91Ƶ Horgan said.

91ƵHe didn91Ƶt go into the details with me.91Ƶ

Horgan and Trudeau did agree to 91Ƶaddress the gaps91Ƶ in the $1.5 billion federal Ocean Protection Plan.

Horgan refuted the notion that Ottawa would punish B.C. financially for opposing the pipeline, saying that there were 91Ƶno threats, no intimidation91Ƶ from Trudeau in the closed-door 91Ƶcollegial meeting among peers.91Ƶ

Pipeline will go ahead: Ottawa

Speaking after his meeting with the duelling premiers, Trudeau insisted that the Trans Mountain pipeline would go through.

91ƵWe are going to get the pipeline built. It is a project in the national interest,91Ƶ Trudeau said, pointing out that the former B.C. government had initially approved the pipeline expansion.

The prime minister didn91Ƶt shy away from criticizing Horgan.

91ƵI don91Ƶt think we would be in this current situation if the British Columbia government hadn91Ƶt continued to emphasize its opposition to the project,91Ƶ Trudeau said.

Trudeau declined to discuss the specifics of Ottawa91Ƶs proposed financial buy-in, saying only that the feds 91Ƶhave engaged in financial discussions with the Kinder Morgan.91Ƶ
