Artists wanted for Keremeos mural dedicated to victims of crime

The LSCSS has previously worked with local artists for murals inside Ambrosia

The Lower Similkameen Community Services Society is looking for artists to pain a new outdoor mural in the community.

The LSCSS' Ambrosia building had local Indigenous artists from the Lower Similkameen Indian Band and a member of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation paint murals inside in 2023.

The different murals there showcased Indigenous culture, and elements of the region including the Ambrosia apple and the nearby mountains.

The new mural that the LSCSS is looking to have painted is focused on raising awareness for victims of crime, with an emphasis on healing, solidarity an community education.

"The mural will serve as a visual reminder of the resilience of survivors, the importance of justice, and the need for system change to create safer communities for all," the LSCSS's invitation for proposals reads.

The society has a list of several suggested themes, but proposals aren't limited to them.

The suggestions include:

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ healing from gender-based violence.

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ Remembering and honouring Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit, and Gender Diverse people.

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ Hope and justice for survivors of human trafficking.

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ Protecting and nurturing children.

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ Respect and dignity for Elders.

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¢ Building stronger and safer communities.

The full details are in the call for proposals which can be requested by emailing admin@lscss.com.

Preference for proposals will be given to ones that incorporate diverse and under-represented perspectives.
