Métis housing/childcare development proposed for Rutland

The proposal includes a six-storey, 90-unit building with Métis community services and a childcare facility

Métis Community Services has submitted a rezoning application to the city for a housing and community services building in Rutland.

The proposal includes a six-storey, 90-unit building with Métis community services and a childcare facility. Housing and childcare will be used primarily by Métis families.

91ƵCulturally specific and appropriate housing, amenities, and services will establish a community hub, strengthening kinship ties within the Métis community and facilitating the transmission of intergenerational knowledge between Elders and families,91Ƶ according to project documents.

The current site, at 1370 Rutland Road North, contains a church and childcare centre.

91ƵThe proposed new residential units on the site would complement the existing uses, not replace them, and expand the services capacity of the site by introducing new at-grade community uses operated by Metis Community Services,91Ƶ the documents state.

The rezoning application has not yet been considered by city council.
