The Kelowna Fire Department is investigating two early morning fires near a commercial building in the 1700-block of Springfield Road.

Crews were called to the scene for a large pallet fire just before 4 a.m. Feb. 16.

Upon arrival, a city worker alerted fire personnel to a second fire in a garbage can. RCMP and the city worker were able to put out the small blaze with snow and a fire extinguisher.

Fire crews snuffed out the pallet fire before it could extend into the commercial building. The exterior of the building sustained some damage and the business was ventilated for smoke that had migrated in. The pile was found to be composite and wood building supplies.

Both fires are considered suspicious and are under investigation.
