More than halfway through the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, and Team B.C. is close to the top of the standings.
Residing out of the Kamloops Curling Club, the B.C. champion team consists of skip Corryn Brown, third Erin Pincott, second Sarah Koltun, lead Samantha Fisher and alternate Kristen Ryan. It is coached by Vernon's Jim Cotter, who had a stellar career himself, including 10 Brier appearances, and a silver medal at the 2014 competition.
Team Brown has so far gone 4-1 at the Thunder Bay, ON., tournament, with the four games won by an average margin of five points. Game one on Valentine's Day was a tidy 11-4 victory over Alberta's Team Sturmay. On Friday, Brown dropped a tight 9-8 decision to Alberta's Team Skrliuk. Brown would rebound the next day with a 7-6 win over Saskatchewan's Team Martin. She followed up the win with two more on Monday, 9-3 and 10-3 to Northern Ontario and Nunavut.
The team has a day off on Tuesday, before three more matches on Wednesday and Thursday.
Next up is a date with the top curling team in the world, Team Canada's Rachel Homan. Homan's team is the defending champions and have won the event four times in its history.
Brown vs. Homan is slated for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
The top three teams in each nine-team pool will advance to the playoffs. Brown currently sits second in Pool A.
